Prem Rawat addresses special United Nations 60th Anniversary event San Francisco, June 28 - Responding to an invitation from the United Nations 60thAnniversary Committee, Prem Rawat addressed on June 24th a distinguished audience of diplomats, and government and civic leaders at an event held in celebration of the UN's 60th anniversary at the Herbst Theater in San Francisco, where the UN Charter was signed sixty years ago. Was he? If so it was a strange invite as the Prem Rawat Foundation still had to pay $1200 to The Board of Trustees of the War Memorial of San Francisco for the Hire of the Herbst Theatre. This can be seen in the Boards' minutes dated 10th March 2005.
The United Nations 60th Anniversary Committee was set up by the United Nations Association of San Francisco, this being a chapter of the United Nations Association of the United States of America, a national, nonpartisan, and nonprofit organasitation dedicated to enhancing US participation in the United Nations system. www.una-sf.org.
It celebrated its Official celebrations at the Stanford Court Hotel; the University Club; Grace Cathedral; and the Fairmont Hotel on the 25th/26th June. The Herbst Theatre must have been a venue for one of the the Unofficial celebrations. If it was they failed to mention it. Instead they noted an event to be held by the San Fransisco Bahai centre as an unnofficial event on 26th June and the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute on 24th June.
I gather none of the speakers invited at the official events were called upon to contribute to the rental of the premises.
I would like to invite Irene to speak about the United Nations at my local village community centre for the bargain basement price of $1200 (cheques to be made payable to the Hinsattva Self Aggrandisement Association). In return I will praise your efforts for world peace enthusiastically and say (quite truthfully) that I find your presence at our humble centre an enrichening experience. |
