I think the key words are 'denial' and ''intention'' Songster.

Most people lead lives of denial with cherished illusions the centre of their thinking and being.

It is being a public figure and someone who influences other individuals when this comes to society's attention.

Most denial situations are conodoned in this society. Eg living in a money based society that could wipe out African debt in a year if it chose. We deny that we have any social responbility for our fellow human beings in Africa.

In fact progress only seems to be made in a critical state of denial when there is critical mass of people who recognise the damage done eg Hitler, the Live 8 effort to raise money for Africa etc. Rawat is not important enough to be subject to critical mass of society.

The second factor is íntention. If there is a good intention, in the short term things may not turn out subjectively well, but in the long term it seems to work for the common good.

The converse is true for lack of good intention, for selfish intention, for evil intention. There may be short term gain for an individual or a group, but long term, the seeds of destruction for the individual or the group lie in the lack of good intention. Almost as though there is a natural law at work.

That said, the long term may be very long. We as subjective individuals may never see the results.

I guess this brings into play a concept of common good, or social benefit.

I can only iterate that denial is the root of disease in the individual. It is the classic metaphysical cause for most cancers, if you subscribe to the theory that physical disease is a mirror of mental disease.
