It is widely agreed that experience arises from a physical basis, but we have no good explanation of why and how it so arises.

I think one factor that is overlooked in this observation is that the physical can't be considered a purely objective phenomena, independent of our subjective consciousness. We can't really say what the world looks like independentof our human consciousness. It only looks the way it does because that's the way we're capable of seeing it. The three pounds of grey matter we call the brain is only three pounds of grey matter because that's how we're conscious of it. The very fact that we identify it as a physical mass is an emergent phenomena of it. What's it really, independentof the way we see it?
