They are in a cult that restricts their ability to think clearly, and the majority, if not all of them, would be better off out of it. Depends on the alternative, I guess. Actually I'm sort of grateful that I was seduced by a cult that had such an anemic hold on me, especially as I compare my experience with friends who were in Scientology or something. Man, you don't look crosswise at those guys. And as far as I can make out Scientology is not even a "religious" cult, although it has a rather intriguing narrative. So, if one were to leave the Maharaji cult for Scientology, or the Mormons, or something maybe he'd be better off just staying put. I mean, assuming nobody asks him to perform a self-amputation in order to catch a spaceship flight or something. (Well, premies don't even believe in spaceships do they? So that's alright then.) But your point about appearances being indicative of very little is well taken. If there are any Al Qaeda sleepers in this country right now I imagine they look pretty much like anyone else you might know. It's really pretty easy to pass for "middle class/normal" after all. The perfect disguise.
