"I understand that Charanand and the other mahatmas forced Maharaji to be there because he really didn't like Indian music and was actually trying to phase it out at the time.  "

I suspect it was part of covering up the " Hindu Trappings" rather than Maharaji not liking Indian music.

Recent programs ( since 2000 ) have played a tinkly bell / flutey all -music version of " Focus on the Form " as part of  the easy-listening, "build up the atmosphere" strategy before Maharaji came on stage.  This also pleased and nurtured the old premies with a bit of subliminal brainwashing . I found that when I heard the tune , the unheard words automatically played and replayed in my head, even though these kinds of lyrics are strictly  off limits at public programs these days.

All music versions of several old standards were played and it was like a little quiz to pass the time ( instead of meditating )...Here's the tune...what were the words ? Yes...subliminal brainwashing...worked a treat ! Does any other recent Ex. remember this?
