One of the reasons why scholars do not rely on former members is because they were hard to trace. That has changed a great deal since the internet and they have no excuse anymore. Can somebody please explain me why former members are considered unreliable by some scholars because I don't understand? I have to admit though that the testimonies of a fresh ex may be colored by a sense of betrayal.The preferred method of research is called triangualation: current members, former members, and other data/objective corroboration.
