Do you really see a comparison? Or do you just WANT there to be a comparison? This is 2005. We live in a civilised world with our families and creature comforts.Do you seriously believe any current day people with an interest in peace and inner happiness are going to take a long swig of the Beetlejuice just because someone tells them too? What do you think this is? Some Marcus Applegate "Just do it !" thing? You think we are all preparing to carry sarin gas cannisters onto the Subway?Shit man we haven't even shaved our heads or donned orange robes...

Thank you, but I do know what year it is.  Without question there are many, many similarities between Jim Jones behavior and the behavior of Prem Rawat, especially the behavior Rawat has been exhibiting lately in response to his former followers. You would be very surprised, I certainly was. One striking similarity (among many others) is that both cult leaders started out preaching and getting followers at a very young age.  There are also many similarities to the power and control that Jones held over his followers and the power and control Rawat holds over his.

Also, the Jonestown tragedy occurred in 1978, when there were plenty of "creature comforts," so it's safe to say the world was considered "civilized" in 1978 too, if "creature comforts" is a hallmark of "civilized society."  Plus, Jones got his followers to move to Guyana with their families

Btw, you should know that some of the survivors of Jonestown take offense when people make fun of their tragedy by making "Kool-Aid" jokes, because they feel that people are minimizing the tragedy, plus, as I said, it wasn't Kool-Aid.  Jones conducted rehearsals (called "White-Nights") of the mass murder/suicide.

I most definitely think that if Prem Rawat were of a mind to get premies in one place, such as DECA was in Hialeah, Florida, and a remote place that's currently available, like Amaroo, in Australia, and he told his followers to drink poison, there's a good chance they would.  Premies refuse to question him about anything else, so I think it's safe to say that they wouldn't question him about that.  I especially think that it's true of any old-timer, true-believing premies, who have told me that they wish they could all move to Amaroo and live together with Maharaji, apart from the world.
