The way I see it, you cannot get a glimps of truth or see things 'as they are' if you do not have a healthy constitution. The reason so many of us was so prone to fantasies in our youth was because of our impoverished state. We were 'weak' so we 'surrendered'.  Encouraged to drop all our natural defenses of reasoning, logic and doubts we ended up believing everything we were told. We even believed we had no beliefs.

The general public rightly are and have been suspicious of all cults and their motives. Why, because the perception is that they attract (and take advantage of) those who are 'weak' and 'needy'. The perception is that the weak join these cults to become strong but instead they end up finding strength in weakness, in surrender, in obeying, and always in gratitude. Nothing that has happened in recent years has altered this perception, because nothing that has happened in recent years has changed that reality which underpins all cults.

I think there is some truth in your claim that this Forum is a support group for doubt. Not only doubt but also dissent and argument. And what, I ask you, is wrong with that?

" Time spent arguing with the faithful " says Christopher Hitchens " is almost never wasted. The argument is the origin of all arguments; one must always be striving to deepen and refine it."

I think he is right. I think we must always challenge those who claim to come from the land of answers.
