The divorce-mill, as I call it, was a Divine Light Mission attorney and me (we were both ashram premies living at the Broadripple on Collins Ave.) I was his secretary. This was right out of the Alton Road, Miami Beach offices of Divine Light Mission, Inc. It wasn't a separate law firm working within the DLM headquarters' premises. We were unpaid DLM ashram premies.
We processed divorces for married premies so that they would be freed up to do full-time service either at DECA or at the residence or some other special project that required full-time service. Some had children. In that situation, it was especially difficult because one of the parents was moving into the ashram to do service for Maharaji. I can't imagine what they told their kids.
The reasoning behind this was that one or both of the premies could move into the ashram, and they wouldn't be paid anything, have no personal housing costs, so money was being saved for Maharji's projects (rather than letting the folks remain married and get paid the alread-low-wages that the few married DECA premies were paid).
I had been fired from DECA because I had a total physical breakdown, so I was only working a few hours in the morning or afternoon for the attorney at DLM. They, meaning the powers above me, were still trying to figure out what to do with me because I was very sick, it wasn't working out for me to even be working at DLM a few hours a day.
They eventually transferred me to the Gainesville, Florida ashram.
P.S. We were paid something, I forgot to mention it. Full-time ashram premies were paid a 10.00 or $15.00 per week allowance.
