He's trying to give a very clean image of himself of course, and of his master and his assistants. I don't doubt his Hari Puri Baba was very likely a nice guy - and a very respectable guru in the Indian tradition. But his story with the kid Rawat should fit in his youth and early 'search'. He does mention his visit to various 'famous' gurus here and there in India, pilgrimage places etc before he met his guru, and states that he never left India since. There are obvious lies and omissions. I have to assume he's not very proud of his crazyness of that time, and ashamed he spent so much time and believed in Rawat's swindling. It's interessing to see that he's doing like so many other people: pulling some embarrassing parts under the carpet. I don't blame him for this !
