While I am an atheist I am prepared to learn from any source and I think your response to Jesus Christ' teachings, in this case, is incorrect while I agree that the totality of his teachings as recorded are impossible to live up to. Saying that Christ's teachings are impossible to live up to implies that they're good but unreasonably lofty. I think a lot of them aren't good at all, either because they're inscrutable or simply misguided. But anyway ... Matthew 7 1 Do not judge, or you too will be judged. 2 For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. 3 Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother's eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? 4 How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? 5 You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye. When verses 1 & 2 are read together as they obviously should be, then the meaning is not that you shouldn't judge at all but that the spirit with which you judge is extremely important. As an atheist I don't believe there will be a final judgement but as advice to live your life by I think it's pretty good especially when the next verses are taken into consideration. Okay, so now we're talking about something different yet again: hypocrisy. Well I agree. Hypocrisy's bad. But it's a different subject. While I understand why you'd be irritated by San's language and nebulosity why not just ignore his new ageisms and not clog the forum up with invective. You read a post, you see something you disagree with, you comment. We all do it. The only problem is if you do it with San it's never a clean process. So why do I keep doing it? No good reason, really. Force of habit? |
