Ya it does sum it up, if I say so myself. 

The fact is, as soon as Rawat dropped the whole God-realization thing we should have seen that this trip was aborted, decidedly dead and lost forever on the historical junk heap of grandiose spiritual ambitions.  The Holy Family split was nothing compared to Rawat letting that realization thing die.  I guess he did it just gradually enough that we almost didn't notice.  Mind you, the other side of the coin was that, after so many false starts when we actually did think we were closing in on that "infinite space", we got tired too.  It was almost a relief to drop the unachievable goal and pretend, for a change, that what we really wanted was just a hug.
