Perhaps the inability to forecast this happening is because of a belief in god, hence looking in another direction than oneself. Ironic really considering the satsang line that the big K was supposed to be an introduction to oneself as well as god.
Thinking under the influence of strong emotions does tend to lack other intelligence one normally has thanks to a little composure and it's easy not to notice this at the time.
Apart from having good company, a lack of superstitious thought clogging up the airwaves has to the most helpful thing in navigating tough times.
