I do not excuse them at all. In a way someone hanging on for nostalgia would be worse than the true believer.
It does make some sense to me that a premie who has spent his or her entire adult life in a belief system where only the "experience" matters- could put nostalgic feelings over ethics. Again, I am not excusing that. The people who have left recently seem to regain a long lost inner moral compass.
Someone said very eloquently once that when she left she realized the little voice she thought was mind, telling her how wrong it all was all along, was her true self trying to get out. She said it better.
I just wonder if some of these people still have an "true self", consicience or authentic self identity left at all. Of course to, some people seem to be defective without cults, and never have that sort of conscience at all. Like a borderline personality/sociopath, and I do think a number of people in the cult did fit into that category.
