Can't resist this one ( apologies for embarrassment in advance Mike ...bet you're beginning to wish I'd stayed a keep-dumb little premie ).

On the way to Guru Puja , Copenhagen 1974

1. We paraded around on the main deck of the ferry ( a few coach -loads full of premies) carrying pre-prepared " Peace " Banners and singing " The Lord of the Universe " . I remember how embarrassed I felt and the bemusement of the unlit passengers.

2. Our coach hit the crash barrier on the autobahn and I distinctly remember glimpsing tiny fir trees way , way down in the valley below. For a moment we it seemed as if we were going to plummet down..but then by groomarjiz grace and miraculously we bounced back onto the road.

Caused a bit of a hold up...what with tying the side of the coach back on with string and paying a visit to the local police station . During this time, wherever possible, premies were leafleting innocent motorists and bystanders inviting them to the festival ( never miss a service opportunity).

Despite this mishap, we made it to Copenhagen , saw the Lord dance onstage with his new bride, ate lots of yoghurt and I kissed the lotus toes for the first time ( another disappointment as I thought it would be the breakthrough I was waiting for).

Whilst wandering around trying to make sense of it all I came across our unmistakably wrecked coach and peered inside. There was poor Mike Finch, stretched across the seats , fast asleep ( did he miss the whole festival? ) . He had done that same London to Copenhagen journey ( and back) several times as one of the few with an HGV licence and was suffering the aftermath of dedicated divine slavery!

3. On my way to Holi around 1980 or '81-ish ( Rome) a premie in another coach stepped out onto the road after travelling hundreds of miles in cramped, airless conditions and was killed instantly by a passing car .I wonder who had the job of informing his family. I've often thought how terrible that was but in Rome it was barely mentioned and "business as usual ".

4. Where I live now, I made a friend who has never really known that I followed a gooroo. A couple of years ago she told me about a friend of hers who lives nearby who " ..used to follow a gooroo Maharaji or something. She was seriously injured in a car crash on the way to Essen and has never fully recovered."

The list goes on and on....
