yes it is a good question isn't it, I've been wondering if maybe America is paying the price for Billy Graham.

I have spent quite a lot of time now on the straight spouses forum where you get to read intimate stories where religious beliefs are involved as well as instinctive responses from predominantly Americans.

fundamental Christian evangelism is alive and kicking across the globe it seems to me, but it's America that has embraced it.  Even the educated professor types are comfy with them.

And the other thing that stands out - the self-help industry has now got a whole country going to see a counsellor for anything and everything as long as your health insurance holds out.  It's staggering to me sitting here in Australia, I know we're travelling on the same route but we're a long way behind.  I keep wanting to say what makes you think the counsellor knows any better than you do, it's your life.  (I don't say it).

But then.  But then I think about those Islamic states or the craziness in Asia and suddenly the unhingedness of the Americans is more out there and endearing and not as scary to life and limb.

I do think in general as a species we have fundamentally hit a tipping point where mental health issues have become unavoidably more prominent.  ie it is in who we are not how we live.
