Of course Jimmy Kimmel is going to ask 20 people and pick out the three dopiest among them. I do think there is a lot of ignorance in the US in general though, just based on what I have read and experienced directly.

In Germany it is a bit better, probably just because the level of education in general is a bit higher. The people I speak with, and really that is in all walks of life, mostly seem to know what is going on. Maybe there is a younger generation where that is not the case. I literally had a teenage girl in my house once who did not know what East Germany or East Berlin or the wall was. Something like that. I don't remember specifically. By the way we (and she) live in Berlin. I am hoping that was an extreme exception. Actually I know it is. I have lots of teenagers in my house and most are very knowledgeable about the world.

But that is Germany. I meet lots of other people from other European countries and they are very well informed as well about things. But maybe I only come into content with a certain level of education type person.

In other parts of the world who knows really. I do get the sense that there is an intentional policy, at least among the Republicans, to keep people uneducated in the States, because I think they see that as an advantage for them. I don't get that at all in Germany or other European countries. But that is just my own speculation.
