You'd think we could learn from our history, but we don't feel we have any power to make any significant changes for the future. We could ponder on our dependence on international trade, but when the village shop doesn't stock sex toys, you click on Amazon a couple of times and the sex toy factory in China fires up its furnaces and sends another one up the Suez. The decline engenders a sense of helplessness and hopelessness, but we can get a cheap laugh from the absurdity of container loads of sex toys being part of the blockage.
