Watching Hurricane Irma zeroing in on Florida, I'm reminded of the then famous-now no doubt denied as ever happening-Hurricane Festival.

It must have been in '79 or 80.  We showed up in Miami Beach for the standard 3 day cultfest w/the then Guru Maharaj Ji.  A hurricane was coming in so the cultfest was moved to our old stomping grounds in Kissimmee.

So, we drove from Miami to Kissimmee grateful how much our guru cared. Got there late at night. Got a motel room only to get a knock on the door around sunrise telling us cultfest was cancelled but if we hurried, we could still get some foot kissing. Frantically, we bought this steaming pile.

I stayed at the hotel at the intersection of the main road and the long dirt road that went into the field -- probably eight of us packed in the same room.  I remember the apprehensive (fast) walk down that road, a hurricane breathing down our necks with an uneasy sense that it was not safe or responsible, but not wanting to miss a chance to kiss a foot.

Reminds me of another "program" on the beach. Rawat had just figured out that he could make some extra bucks by creating his own travel agency there in Miami.  We were guided to deal w/them.

So, we take off from DC happy that we will be staying at the famous, mobbed up Fontainebleau.  We(6 of us) checked in, went to our room only to discover that the AC was not working as management was doing upgrades during the summer off season.

We then went to our cult travel agent who basically said this was our opportunity to surrender........I should have known then to escape the whole cult thing but somehow blamed it on spaced out premies not Prem.

i lived t the broad ripple for this one. i had the opportunity in the whirl of  frantic activity to visit the warehouse that housed m's cars and private possesions to make sure it was secure. wow. then headed up north. i do remember a short satsang and then the darshan line at night. i was thrilled because there was only a loose security and no tunnel to obstruct the view. so i watched for an extended time.
