As many of you will know, Forum 8 was closed down following a hacking incident, and subsequent heated discussions which resulted in a lack of will to restart the forum on another host.  My own feelings at the time were that I needed to take a break from involvement in running a forum.  I intended that break to be a month, and I was watching to see if anyone else would set up a forum I would be happy to post on.  No one did, although Mike Finch said that he would be happy to help run a forum.

So, I took my own advice, many times expressed to others, that if I didn't like the existing forums, then I should set up my own.  Mike and I appear to agree on how a forum should be run, so here we are.  As the intro says, this forum isn't for everyone.  I read carefully the discussions about forums, and the criticisms of F8,  and where the suggestions do not conflict with my own or Mike's preferences, we have tried to incorporate them.  I personally hope posters here understand how to behave in public amongst strangers - it has always amazed me that some people post on the internet as if they are role playing in some computer game that has no consequences.

Anyway, no doubt much more will be said, and I hope Mike will add something about his involvement here.

Oh, and we've tried to make the registration process as clear as possible within the restrictions of the software. So, just so everyone is clear - you will not be able to post until I or Mike manually approve you. That's just the way it is!

John.

Hi John and Everyone

I think my aim in all this is pretty straightforward: my main concern is that information and points of view about Rawat are easily available on the internet and elsewhere.

To that end there are several good websites about Maharaji and what it means to be his follower.  If you enter 'Maharaji' into Google, the first ten results give a fair mix of the various attitudes and points of view about Maharaji, both positive and negative.

The Forums are an important part of that, and so I think to have a few Forums, with their different styles, is healthy.

Or since it is a forum about Prem Rawat, I guess I should say puffy not stuffy. Or puffy and stuffy and full of fluffy platitudes. Okay now Aunt Bea concentrate and try to stay on topic, this is a forum about Prem Rawat.

Right, Prem Rawat, former cult leader. Or rather active cult leader of a former cult. I mean active cult leader of an active cult whose members are all former. Okay its an active cult with former members. But some of the members are not former, so you could say it's a cult with a cult following.

I've got to go now – busy day tomorrow.

I agree that the ex-premies have been very successful in getting the other side of the story about Rawat out to the public and to premies (as well as ex-premies, who haven't really dealt with all that stuff).  So, thanks to you and John for setting this place up and all the best to everyone.

By the way, did you hear that Rawat is scheduled to speak before the Council on Foreign Relations, now that he is an expert on world peace?  I heard he was going to do that, right after he addresses the United Nations and right before he appears on Fear Factor on Fox TV.   I also heard he has been having an affair with Ann Coulter, who I have heard is really a man.

Is this all joke?! It scared me at first, then I realised you were joking, then I wondered whether any of it was true after all?

It is quite something when you realise that the Lord of the Universe you gave your life to for 30 years is a United Nations peace guy after all!

Hi,

Thanks for getting this up and running.

A couple of questions - is the data from f8 lost? And if so, is it possible to do something like a weekly backup of this one?

I think it is a shame to lose some of the info that comes out on these threads - it can be a valuable research source for exiting premies, and must be a growing thorn in Mr Rawat's side.

13,

Just before I went to bed last night I got an email from Lunar Pages saying I could download the F8 data, which they had in a (very large) TAR file.  My broadband enabled associates are currently dealing with this, so hopefully we will get all the F8 posts in an archive soon.

John.

I would be very happy if forum 8 data is restored. I did a lot of thinking in the postings there. Andries
