>and they were being sung in public satsang right until it was closed down< Do you mean 'public satsang' being 'closed down' or is this a reference to part of the organisation ? Nik

Yes, I mean until 'public satsang' ie advertised nightly meetings available to the public in which premies were asked by a person in charge to go to the front of the hall, sit in a designated chair and (hopefully) give a spontaneous and inspiring speech about the effects that practising the "Knowledge" of Guru Maharaj Ji had in their life and why they would recommend it to everyone was closed down. This did occur at pretty well the same time as the ashrams being closed and most parts of the Divine Light Mission organisation being closed also, at least where I lived.

Thanks for the explanation. It is interesting how the Rawat/premie revisionism energetically denies the 78 - 82 super devotional period, and then provides an interpretation of the organisational retrenchment - which is how most people seem to have experienced it - of 82/83 as part of some ongoing de-Indianisation. Personally I was divorced from the organisational stuff by that point so I have a rather detached view of that period. My take is that Rawat was in some kind of 'crisis' and far from being motivated by any plan to de-Indianise, I think he was simply unable to play the role he had built for himself. The rebranding post 1985 had much more to do with the creation of a 'master' persona that Rawat could live with, than any issue of accessibility. Nik

I also had a detached view at that period but I thought that it was caused by the US media hooha at the time about gurus. After Jonestown, examination of the cults became more pronounced and both LRon Hubbard's wife and the "Reverend" Moon went to gaol for 1. conspiracy to destroy government records about Elron and 2. tax evasion(?)
As he hasn't changed the role, only the clothing, I don't think that had anything to do with it. "Security" has always been a huge part of service in DLM and EV even though there has never really been anything to worry about. It would seem that Prem must be paranoid and the decision to go "underground" for most of the 80's and to try to destroy all the public material pre 1982 should be put down to that paranoia.

I've just sent a couple of old music tapes to the Gallery to be saved and copied. Some of the titles you mention are on them.I know that my personal "One Foundation" Gopi style favourite ( "You are my Everything" ) is. I would appreciate knowing that they arrived OK and eventually (no hurry) would like them ( or copies,as they are very old!) back.

Hi Lexy! Yes, I have that "You are my Everything" tape somewhere, too. (I still think "Leaving your lotus feet" is a beautiful song--someone's very sincere expression at the time, and that's real). Just shows we had it in us all along--no need for any intermediary, although it seems we need a catalyst now and then. Perceptions about "catalysts" can change of course. ~Shelagh

I also loved I surrender to my Satgurudev, and used often to play these two in satsang. We were talking last week about favourite hymns. Devotional music is very beautiful, and perhaps everyone is really singing to the same power, or perceived power, whichever songs they are singing. If you divorce them from automatically being towards Prem, and more to an internal power, they still retain their beauty.

Hi Anthony! I think there was always some very tiny part of my awareness that responded to the music in a way that was able to go "beyond knowledge"--i.e. that even this path was just one path in something much much bigger. If I'd ever shared that as a premie I would have been shouted down as a heretic, of course, or just not "getting it"! I'm very thankful for that part of me now, as it has taken me through and out the other side of many things, and freed from the very dark side of even this premie trip too. All landscapes to pass through--beware the ones who tell you you've arrived! ~Shelagh

'Leaving your Lotus Feet' was also one of my favourite devotional songs. I've just listened to it again, and it is very beautiful. I felt quite sad! I had this tape in the 80's but it got chewed up, and it was not possible to replace it. I often wondered why EV didn't re-release albums, and I don't think they've made them available for premies to listen to on-line either. Not like The Gallery has. So, thank you Gallery.

I often wondered why EV didn't re-release albums, and I don't think they've made them available for premies to listen to on-line either. Can you imagine Elan Vital now playing this song (to take just one as an example) at a public introduction program? Come to that playing this song at any time anywhere. I'm sure that Elan Vital would not want to run the risk of them in some way being seen as a personality worship cult, which of course they are. Funnily enough I recently received an email from a very well known UK premie thanking me for placing online the various music tracks in the Gallery. He said that the music tracks still hold true for those that have 'gone beyond the smoke screen and bullshit'. I invited him to discuss his views on this forum and he said he would look at the forum and come back to me. I have yet to hear from him, but I guess that as he has not posted here he has decided not to post. Or maybe he is still considering the invitation? Gallery

I recently received an email from a very well known UK premie thanking me for placing online the various music tracks in the GalleryYes, I will tell my premie friends where they can now source all this if they want to. They certainly won't get it from EV that's for sure. That just seems so wrong. It's always about M, what he wants, and not what his premies want. I think that's selfish and inconsiderate of him. And it doesn't look like he has premies' best interests at heart either. This place is a fantastic source of info for premies and exes alike. Recently the Ft. Lauderdale event was annouced here before any UK premies had heard of it. I think EVUK put out the info a few days later. How insulting to premies that they have to read it here to keep up to date with what's going on!! Funny and ironic!

Some of the tracks that Poul mentioned are missing. This is because originally two tapes were released. When I split-up with my ex-husband in 1984 we split the tapes (it was really hard choosing which one to take). Somebody probably has the other one with "Focus on the Form" ! etc on it? I have burrowed around and unearthed another tape ,recorded in Melbourne ,called " Gone". It hasn't gone yet but I will send it tomorrow.

Hi Lexy I'm sure I have 'Gone' somewhere here as well as many more tapes. The main challenge I have is finding time to do this stuff, so don't worry about sending more tapes. It is much appreciated nevertheless. I still have to get to the Xmas tape, that will need quite a lot of 'work'. kind regards Gallery
