'The evaluation has verified that TPRF meets BBB's 20 specific standards of Charity Accountability regarding how the organization is governed, how its money is spent, the truthfulness of its representations, and its willingness to disclose basic information to the public.'

I guess they missed the most basic information of all. Jai sat chit anand.

Here's a bit about the BBBWGA set up - hardly a great test for TPRF to meet:

http://www.philanthropy.com/jobs/2005/09/29/20050929-29170.htm

The groups differ in the criteria by which they judge charities, and also by how they decide which organizations to examine. For example, Charity Navigator and the American Institute of Philanthropy rate charities' financial practices based on publicly available information, such as the Form 990 informational tax returns that charities must file with the Internal Revenue Service; the institute also requests data from the charity being rated.

The Wise Giving Alliance reviews charities according to a set of voluntary standards that cover governance and oversight, effectiveness, fund-raising and marketing practices, and finances; it relies on self-reporting by the charities. The watchdog evaluates nonprofit groups in response to inquiries from the public, though organizations can also request an evaluation of themselves. Charity Navigator generally chooses its evaluation subjects on its own, though both donors and charity staff members can also request evaluations of specific groups.

I was lazy - in posting that link, I just assumed there was something dodgy about it, probably that the Wise Giving Alliance wasn't all it implies.

A bit more googling gives something more substantial.

Thanks Nik.

As TPRF is now so proud of its Wise Giving Alliance listing, perhaps its commitment to transparency should be put to the test. Apart from the fact that TPRF still hasn't got its audited 2005 figures on its own website - TPRF still makes no acknowledgement that it (as has been claimed by Elan Vital Australia since 2004) that TPRF owns Myrine Investments, which in turn owns the IRCC property.

Anyone who has supported IRCC financially, including those who contributed to Elan Vital UK's "Knowledge Centre Fund" might like to contact the BBB Wise Giving Alliance:

http://www.bbb.org/reports.asp

to enquire why this major asset does not appear on the TPRF statement:

http://charityreports.give.org/Public/Report.aspx?CharityID=3098

What EV Australia says:

http://www.elanvital.com.au/faq/article.php?id=062

There is no individual beneficial owner as such and never has been. MIL provided a convenient legal structure for the holding of the IRCC property. The IRCC property is held not for any individual or for any person’s benefit but is held for use for educational purposes. The shares of MIL are held for The Prem Rawat Foundation for its public educational and charitable purposes. The status of TPRF is approved by US regulatory authorities.

For the whole Myrine story:

If BBB registration is trumpeted by TPRF - why has Elan Vital not also sought registration ?

By going down this route surely the TPRF Board is laying its colleagues who run EV,  open to the charge that they (Elan Vital) are not accountable, truthful, or willing to disclose basic information to the public.
