Desmond Morris is a lightweight gobshite & his opinions are predictably shallow.

.........since Rawatism is one of those religions which thrives on the belief of the specialness or uniqueness of homo sapiens sapiens.............

All religions believe this surely, even the ones which are supposedly in harmony with the forces of nature due to eating toadstools, or whatever.  I see one of the functions of  religion as an attempt to impose order on chaos by defining the relationships between individuals, the larger group, & other groups who don't think the same way.

Rawat's Mickey Mouse variant is doomed to failure because it doesn't address these concerns, & indeed prides itself on not doing so. All there is, is a belief in the Magical Individual, & when it's shown beyond reasonable doubt that he doesn't walk his own talk...........bye bye.

I don't consider religion per se to be the problem; the instinct is a common inheritance of all mankind & isn't going to go away anytime soon.  A more fruitful enquiry, maybe, would be into the relative merits of the various traditions, & one can't but conclude that the Judeo-Christian is the one which has got us to here from there. Here being the ability to think beyond religion.

Did I just say that, quick, get me a straitjacket, everyone knows that all religions are just as good (or bad) as one another, & I'd hate to be thought judgemental.

Rawat's non religion was based on a little known fairground trick, & our acceptance of it came from ignorance.  That we were prepared to step outside the safety box of law, so laboriously constructed at great cost down the generations, & subject ourselves to the whim of one man, is more properly the subject for psychologists.

I don't blame religion for Rawat, I blame Rawat for perverting religion.
