Hi Bill!
I posted the Maher article sort of as a counter-point to the discussions about the Bible. Maher is just another show-biz guy, and that's how I see him: As a comedian. I found the article about him funny. I also find the way some folks take scriptures so seriously, amusing, too. Sorry, but that's how I see it.
I did more reading of scriptures of all sorts when I was a premie, so I make it a point to avoid them now because they put me to sleep. I find scriptures (especially the Bible) to be pretty boring now, when compared to the enormous amount of available published material, both fiction and non-fiction, that is stimulating, exciting, educational, thought-provoking, or just plain old-fashioned fun.
But that's just me...
One book I read recently is called A Short History of Nearly Everything by Bill Bryson. I highly recommend it to anyone who, like me, knows next to nothing about science. Bryson isn't a scientist. He wrote the book because he realized how little he knows about so much! This is but one example of what I consider to be exciting reading!
