Nik, It is true that guruism is not as respected in India as it used to be. I work in an academic setting where there are many Indian nationals working in the U.S. medical field. When I have met some of them and I mention my past association with an Indian guru, they invariably get a pained, embarrassed look on their faces. I was surprised at this reaction the first time I encountered it, but now I am used to it and expect it.
