Happiness is not only available to people of the highest morality. Acting in ways that hurt people you know has little if any bearing on ongoing personal happiness . Nearly all the premies I knew back in the 70's had hurt their parents (betrayed their trust as you put it) and family by joining Divine Light Mission and it had very little effect on their youthful exuberance and happiness. One person's betrayal is another person's action in a higher cause so cut the ad hominems and accept the facts. My only regret in this area is keeping my mouth shut for 25 years despite the evidence in front of me at all times that Rawat was dragging his followers down the whole time, people who meant well.

You know premies are no happier or innerly peaceful than other people and they are also nowhere near as happy as when they were bright eyed and bushy tailed 20somethings sharing satsang ad infinitum with the belief that this meditaiton was going to reveal God to them. Remember those times and Rawat's claims? If he was wrong about that then how can he be considered to be right now? Premies are definitely not as happy, enthusiastic and innerly peaceful as some people who follow other gurus / spiritual paths and who are still in the first blush of enthusiasm and religious conversion and can feel proud of their guru and his life and teachings.

I've recently been listening to a CD of the Dalai Lama chanting a Buddhist ceremony which goes for over an hour and is mesmerising, liberating and enchanting. Occasionally I laugh and compare it to that hideous rant released a while back called "Be Excited". Rawat squeaks like a demented rottweiler on amphetamines "Be Excited, be excited, etc" over a lame musical background. Now be honest, weren't you embarassed as anything when you first heard that? Wouldn't it be wonderful to have a guru about whom you could be proud? Someone who had actually made a contribution and not someone to whom you have to make contributions? Someone who hadn't wasted the resources of you and the other premies on private jets, massive yachts and gold plated toilets?
