This is a celebration of the values of passionate people who embraced everything good and ennobling about the '60s.

Looking at Mr Lovejoy without Bruce Elder's rosetints (thanks T for the relevent links) one can't help but conclude that the man is a gold plated bastard. On the one hand he appears to be a prime mover in the attempts to stop anyone else muscling in on his chosen bit of paradise, & on the other it seems he could be a player in the nasty greedhead Rawat's endevours to silence by any & all means, his critics.

So what are we meant to think is so great about this guy?

He doesn't fulfil his potential at Oxford & go on to a career in the Civil Service say, where he could use his brains to better the lot of his fellow countrymen, as so many others unknown from that year, & those before & since, still do. Instead he pisses it all up against the wall because ...well, ask him why,& then uses them to become one of the organisers of a Personality Cult.

Then he goes to live in Arcadia, but doesn't want any cheaplaugh riff raff around to spoil the pristine vibe of the place, so he starts up a newspaper whose main purpose becomes to keep them out.

Hardly anyone, & certainly not B. Elder, realise that far from being a laid back hippie made good, this man is more likely to be an apparatchik of the totalitarian monster, name of Prem Pal Singh Rawat, one time self styled Lord of the Universe, & now just a regular guy with a better barbie than the average.

I won't buy his book.
