Re: Maybe all religions start as cults -- 13 | Top of thread | Forum |

I don't see any connection, apart from superficially, between religion, & a cult such as Rawat runs, anymore. If the 'cult leader' has inspired in his devotees an idea of how to live which is exportable to the population at large & also, & maybe especially, its rulers, at a time when the old way of doing things is clearly failing, & a new dispensation is called for, then he will be remembered as the founder of a religion. This is what happened when Christianity became the official religion of the late Roman Empire. The Prophet,a pox be upon his name, could only get in on the act by banning beer & wine to show the average peon how he was different. The notion that we live in such times is ludicrous, although it maybe didn't seem so when we were young, tripped out on acid, & with the bomb dangling over our heads. By 'we' I mean the inhabitants of the countries called 'The West'. A lot of people in the others are getting converted to Christianity & Islam, not sure about Bhuddism & Hinduism. The reason has to be hope. Hope that the code will provide some improvement in their desperate circumstances. Rawat has no code. He's just one pimp amongst many for the feelgood experience. An irrelevant footnote in the story of our times, but yet someone who needs to be called to account. Simon Wiesenthal died the other day, did you see that? There goes a man who refused to move on, he's a hero to me. |
