Hi PS, I noticed your post yesterday and didn't know how to respond right away. First of all I would like to say that I have always really appreciated your presence and contributions on this forum. I wish I could give you the answer to your problems but I can't. A few thoughts though: In the late 70's when I was in the ashram, I knew of several people who were kidnapped by deprogrammers. On some the deprogramming worked, on others it didn't. By no means am I suggesting this kind of thing and am against that kind of intervention, but it does suggest that someone can be talked out of their cult belief. There was one person with whom I lived. He was certainly a fanatic, but he never lost a certain inner sense of personal ethics. This used to bother alot of us militant followers at the time, because in a sense it showed a lack of faith. In any case, he got kidnapped and that was the end of him. Interestingly enough, he visited my mom afterwards, who was also a premie, because he wanted to try and save me too. In retrospect I really have to respect this guy, exactly because he maintained his ethics despite the weirdness going on around him. I think this quality has alot to do with the ability of culties to finally turn their back on their cult family. I kind of drifted and dripped at the same time, but like some other posters here, the real turning point was getting to know people outside of the cult, people who really didn't have any religious crutch to lean on, who were just so much inciteful, more caring and genuine than the premies I had been hanging with for all those years. Premies used to like to use that quote from the Bible, "you shall know them by their fruits". Exactly! But I do have a suggestion which I will post to you as a private message. Fond regards, Dan |
