Leave off Leonard Cohen, please, Jim | |||

'Ken Wilbur is another silver-tongued snake whose every word I've ever read was either trite, inscrutable or wrong. Who else you got? That Cohen guy?' Even if you possibly think Fly is a bit of a tosser, is that any reason to demean Leonard Cohen, who after all is a fellow Canadian like yourself? I have only the most wholesome memories of being taught Suzanne by a voluptuous invitee into our premie house back in 1975, while the rest of you and them were off jumbling, while she and I were involved in alternative exploration. John Keats said Beauty is Truth, Truth Beauty and that is all you need to know, etc. Gag. But, if the 'truth' be known, we often get pissed off with all the high stuff, and yearn to get back to the ordinary level. And this in itself is part of reality: We just can't be too arsed all the time with great truths. We're humans, and life goes on. Yeah, love is the ultimate to me, but I'm a man for all seasons, versed in the world and how it happens. Too much sanctimoniousness is a great pain the arse, even if one believes in the universal power of love as a final absolute, as I do. Engage in life, and be a good enough Joe, that's all that's required on that level. 'Now Suzanne takes you down to her place near the river, She is wearing rags and feathers from Salvation Army counters...'
