Premie art reflects Prem's own trite words. That is why it is trite, immature, unchallenging and basically plain old boring. It just doesn't go anywhere. No deconstruction, no social commentary, no provocation, no bite. I think it all comes down to honesty. Real art tells the truth. In Rawat's world, truth is replaced by a fairytale.But that actually is an injustice to fairytales, which often express so much collective cultural awareness. I guess premie art, to the extent that it doesn't transcend Rawat, remains as superficial as Malibu Prem himself. There are probably premies making interesting art, but it isn't being used as a promotion tool for the Kahuna.
