I also noted that the website recommends the very expensive book edited by David G. Bromley "The Politics of Religious Apostasy: The Role of Apostates in the Transformation of Religious". This book hardly makes negative generalizations about the reliability of "apostates", certainly not when compared to the reliability of members. The book defines apostates as critical former followers of "subversive" groups. With subversive Bromley means groups that have few allies and many opponents (thus Elan Vital is a subversive group and most people posting here are apostates). I bought the very expensive book because I found the negative generalizations by Melton and Wilson about the lack of reliability of apostates very upsetting: I have tried to describe my own traumatic experience in an accurate, factual way.
