Astrology, crop circles, ley lines, faeries, feng shui, auras ................. take the average human one step away from having to achieve the necessities of food, shelter and reproduction  - and a capacity for almost infinte fantasy comes into play.

Clearly this 'fantasy' creation must have significant evolutionary benefit - whether succombing to it makes us 'stupid' is matter of terminology. My guess though is that Rawat is sociopathic enough to believe that everyone but him is 'stupid' so he expects to be able to churn out any old rubbish and have it accepted. And there's enough fantasy addiction around to keep him in business.
