I remember when the LOTU film appeared on PBS in the States in 1974, being the good ashram premie, I didn't see it, and the big scandal was that it revealed the techniques.  That was the biggest horror to us.  I think most premies didn't even see it.

When I saw the film a couple of years ago, I was really freaked that I might be seen in the footage because I was at the Millennium festival.  The premies look like the ultimate cult-zombies.  Everyone is walking around with their eyes half closed.  Embarrassing.

I don't know if in 1974 that film would have had any effect on me had I seen it.  I was in the honeymoon period with the cult at that point.  I was very "high" because I had abandoned my life completely and was just living as a renunciate helping the Lord save the world.  The "high" had nothing to do with knowledge, it's the same "high" lots of cult members get by leaving all their problems behind and joining a cult.   Within a few years, though, a whole new crop of problems became evident.
