That's sort of like saying that it's a battered woman's fault if she gets beat up or killed, because she left her abusing husband and went to a shelter, and he excalated, killing her and all the kids as a direct result of her leaving. 

Yes, exactly. What gets me is that, first, Barker makes it sound like there are always two sides to these ugly affairs and that neither the cult nor the outside world is blameless.  Then, to defend her, Andries pretends that she was merely mouthing -- but not endoring -- the cult's viewpoint.

Andries is definitely, beyond any shadow of doubt, the cult apologists' apologist.
