Thanks, Hilly -- a much needed laugh and groans! I was an aspirant from August 1975 until January 1976. During that time, the big thing to be explaining away and softening aspirants up about was the Holy Family Split. I remember that now quite clearly. WWA was a thing of the past by the time I got K. But, I can see why I was never shown this. Highlights: Providing massage to prisoners (who as Alan says, live in 13th Century prisons!) so they become "good individuals,"; becoming experts in drug rehab; teaching social services workers how to be humble (because they are too patroninzing and paternalistic -- that's a good one coming from someone who worships a man in a very sexist organization!!); healing emotional and psychological damage to Vietnam vets; addressing the problems faced by the bored premie housewives and Moms (yup, Alan had a bead on that one! lol); and...drum roll: Special Projects! The Hartford premies were probably still rolling in the aisles over this one by the time I showed up. My god! Was this distributed throughout the U.S? The premie housewife part is unbelievable! One thing about that cult: the men were always in charge, often very sexist (oh yeah, it's all coming back to me now - yuck), and they always seemed to think they knew what was best for everybody, especially the wimin' folk. And on top of that, he couldn't write a complete sentence to save his life. What a self-righteous something.
