Wikipedians have gone too far, way too far. As if it wasn't bad enough that premie writers/editors there were able to get ex-premies listed as a hate-group in the "Hate Group" article under "New Religious Movements" (within that article), they have now created a new article called "List of Purported Hate Groups" that also links to the "New Religious Movements" article which also mentions ex-premies as a hate group. Yeah, it's confusing, but it does serve it's purpose there. While ex-premies aren't on this "purported" list, the wording in the article sent a strong, ugly, chill down my spine I'd really like to know what the ADL or the Southern Poverty Law center thinks of this and if premies have ever contacted teh SPLC to ask their opinion of their allegation. Note the "criteria for listing" and how NRMs are listed linked right in the first paragraph. The only criteria for ex-premies even being in the original "hate group" article was that Elan Vital (only) says we are a hate group, therefore it's acceptable for the article and listed. List of Purported Hate Groups Numerous groups have been alleged to be hate groups as defined in that article. However, such allegations are controversial, since the criteria can be highly subjective, and there is no objective standard that will clearly distinguish between legitimate groups addressing legitimate grievances and hate groups acting from bigotry and unreason. Because the accusation is stigmatizing, and it is almost impossible for the accused to prove the negative that it is not a hate group, it has become increasingly common for controversial groups, especially new religious movements, to allege that their critics are a hate group whose criticism must be looked at as intolerance and bigotry. [edit]
Criteria for listingCurrently, the only criteria that needs to be met for an allegation of hate group status to be listed here is for the accusation to have been made at some time, by some identified source. This may change in the future, and listings may be removed, as the standards that determine an allegation credible enough to include here are adjusted. The mere presence of an allegation on this list, therefore, should not automatically be taken as if it was based on credible evidence presented by unbiased parties. In some cases, not only has the party making the allegation failed to present convincing evidence that their targeted foe acts as a hate group, they have failed to even demonstrate that there is any such organized group. One of the major sources of information on hate groups in the United States is the Anti-Defamation League (ADL), which tracks various hate groups and extremist groups that have committed hate crimes. Note that many of the groups on this list are best-known for their hatred against a particular target, but target others as well.
