Yet another hall of mirrors from the world of Prem Rawat. The TPRF collection was based on RVK having the skills to provide canteens to feed thousands of people at a time - to be of any use that had to be put into action within days of the tsunami strike. TPRF/RVK have spent two weeks " evaluating and determining" what 'projects' are going to be "the most effective" - by which time any justification for RVK to be involved has become irrelevant as food distribution has already been addressed by other agencies that were on the ground from day 1. Having failed to live up to the basis for its 'collection' - rapid food distribution - TPRF is now pursuing an undefined process of project allocation, based on unqualified judgements by unamed people. Although TPRF will have to account for its 'disaster fund' under its IRS 990 status, once the money is transfered to foreign bank accounts - unless the recipients are themselves required to publish accounts - the money will be untraceable and TPRF can claim what ever it likes about what was actually achieved. One question that arises from all this opacity is: Will any individual associated with RVK or other organisation funded by TPRF, benefit personally from the expenditure of funds from TPRF ? In the end $107k is peanuts, still at best TPRF has served to delay this money being used in the vital first two weeks ( the large charities have arrangements with their bankers that enable them to spend on the basis of pledges/cheques received etc - no waiting for clearance) at worst it has collected money on the false pretence that it was going to feed those affected by the tsunami. And the whole farce was completely unneccessary - all TPRF had to do was urge people to donate and give a link to a NGO that has a track record in disaster relief. TPRF is an irrelevant organisation looking to create a role for itself - sadly premies, besotted with anything that carries the Rawat seal of approval, seem willing to fund its dilitant philanthropy. |
