The key word is discredited, not dismissed by the APA (American Psychological Association).  The jury is still out on mind-control.  When the APA curtailed the study (that is so often and incorrectly referenced) they said there was not enough information to make a definitive affirmation of the study, as well as money to further fund it.

These apologists, including Barker, have no expertise in psychology or psychiatry so I it's very questionable (and quite annoying) that they are given so much credit as the definitive scholars on mind-control or brainwashing. 

But, now I'm boring myself, because I feel like a broken record on this subject...
