You're more worried about the random actions of some lunatic (now neutralised, I assume) that led to one death, than the thirty-odd years of lies that have torn apart families and destroyed lives--and yes, led to many deaths--and which continues to do so. (Count the suicides, Doc. We all know a few.)
That makes sense, actually. You can't do anything about random tragedies. But if you were to face the results of M's actions, well, then you'd have to act, wouldn't you? Yup, it's far less painful if you simply feign ignorance and toss around euphemistic clichés like "self awareness". (Do you really think that premies have any special self-awareness? That they are the slightest bit more self-aware than anyone else? Really? Really?)
I'll tell you a secret. You will never be more alive and more human--and, yes, more self-aware--than on the terrible day you tell M to sling his hook.
