yes, as relatively sane and normal people we look at these crazy people who elect themselves as our leaders and really all you can think is how can we survive them.
the aborigines here have a strong tradition of elders - the elders of the tribe are the leaders. And on the one hand it is a real and excellent system where an elder is not just older but also has the character to have gained the trust and respect of all the tribe. And on the other hand there were tribes who had laws like all the young women had to marry an older man first before they could have a love match and you just know something's gone wrong in the leadership process.
