There's no way of knowing how conundrums like this will pan out, but I wouldn't be surprised if the tax payer doesn't end up owning the Trump clubs with Trump himself being reimbursed with a £1 share. Like it or lump it. Whether the clubs will ever be a viable business afterwards is moot, but at least in the meantime the employees won't be rendered destitute.

It's inaccurate to say he's 'seeking handouts'. The furlough scheme in both the UK & the RoI is an emergency measure, which for the time being at least, doesn't enquire too closely into whether or not the employer can afford to contribute.
