Yeah, a tricky subject. It could be argued that it's in the nature of children to be indoctrinated regardless, & that the important considerations are therefore, by whom & for what reasons. We sent our children to catholic schools not because we wanted them to grow up to be catholic, but because we wanted them to understand the cultural background of their families, & the wider christian based  society. Another reason was that 'faith schools' so called in the UK, are usually much better than 'state schools', whilst still being free.

I'm not going to go into the reasons why that model which works well for catholics, protestants & jews here, isn't quite so straightforward when it comes to muslims, but maybe the doctrine that leaving islam attracts the death penalty has something to do with it.

Anyway, both our children seem to have survived with their psyches in good order, & in fact our daughter's latest squeeze (seems to be serious) was brought up as guess what....a Mormon.

We've had a couple of mutually weird conversations along the lines of religious backgrounds, but that's ok, he's a good guy. I hope a wedding isn't in the offing; I just know in advance my speech is going to freak his parents out.

1977 was my 1st visit to the Vatican too. We coulda been there at the same time. I made it down to St Peter's tomb in the bowels of the place, where there was a stone worn smooth & with a deep indentation from the kisses of 2,000 yrs of devotees. I think I had a profound 'realisation' of how that fitted in with darshan, but I've forgotten what it was now.
