It is true and yeah, it's scary alright. I don't know if you're being facetious but I'd have no problem at all with kids going to the Vatican for two reasons. Christianity and the catholic church are central to our history and culture and also those trips are never conducted to indoctrinate. Christianity's open to honest historicity and intellectual scrutiny. That's good enough for me. Even if it's superstitious, hell, I don't care. Let people think what they want so long as the belief system isn't seditious, an affront to human dignity or people who abandon or even criticize it are threatened or killed. I'd have no problem with students going on field trips to the Mormon Tabernacle Church in Salt Lake City either. Same thing.
