As long as I've been alive, in both England and Australia, the media has been constrained from reporting the race of the wrong-doer. 

It is a bit irritating because we want to know but I assume the constraint is there to avoid inflaming racially based hatred in large crowds of people.

So imagine for a moment you are a young Muslim father going off to work in the morning.  your wife walks your children to school every day ...  you'd probably be quite glad it wasn't being reported.

just to have a law like this means we must have had problems in the past.

when you think about it, it's like well people have trouble getting on within the same race - it's an obvious and effective quick fix to band together as being the same race v another race.
