I've just received the news that Pat Conlon, who posted on these forums as PatC, has died. He made a significant contribution to the online struggle against Rawat's cult, and his courage resulted in him having to close his restaurant, Jouberts, because of the attacks from premies who bombarded the online review system with negative reviews. He lived an unconventional lifestyle having two husbands, but from the obituary, it was a loving and lasting relationship.

Thanks, Gerry, for the info.

Pat's contributions to the ex-premie forums were, as you say John, signficant. Thanks for passing the news on.

He won't be forgotten.

PS You say he had to close his restaurant because of negative reviews from premies. Got a link for that?

The following Sunday after a SF Latvian a large number of us went to Jouberts and Pat, Andy and Chuck served us an excellent meal.  The restaurant was closed that day and we had the whole place to ourselves.  It was a great time that I won't forget.

Thanks, Pat!

Condolences to Pat's loved ones and all those who will miss him.  So sad for the loss of one who helped save us from the cult and inspired us as we started over.

Pat was a remarkable, witty man. He had endless intellectual curiosity. He was a steadfast friend and a very important, vibrant contributor to this forum. His business in San Francisco did suffer and he was a main target of the hate campaign driven by the cult. The move north was really good for him and for his family. Pat kept writing and engaging with people from all over the world when he moved away from his active participation here. We were strengthened by his caring, thoughtful posts, and by his friendship. Thank you, Pat.

Pat Conlon was a treasure.  He made a big difference on the forum, not only through posting about ex-premie matters of cult deconstruction and dealing with premie trolls, but through his humor, which was spot on and hilarious.  Pat Conlon had a sharp tongue and pen (keyboard) but a big heart.

I also remember that he and his partners adopted at-risk dogs  -- those that had health problems.  That's a commitment that is difficult.

Rest in Peace Pat, and condolences to Chuck and Andy.

I remember Pat from his activity on the forum. One of my unfulfilled ambitions was to meet him and have a meal in his restaurant one day.

He was a close forum friend for a while, but life has a habit of shuffling all the cards and dealing new hands. Before you know it, the world's changed again. It is a poorer place without him.

It must be said that Pat hated the left, hated what he thought it had done to his native South Africa and hated what it was doing in America. He left California because he despised the liberal progressive mindset that he thought totally missed the unique strengths and value of America and classical Western post-enlightenment values. I must say that, at the time, I thought his vehemence was over-the-top. Now I get it.

Anyway, too bad. And yeah, those guys did indeed host the most amazing banquet for us that day in San Francisco.

He was one of those who made a difference, & that's rare. Doing it with humour, rarer still.

Goodbye Thelma & thanks for being here.

Such sad news, Pat was very instrumental in helping me exit the Cult. I owe him a debt of gratitude for the clarity, humor, wisdom, support and flat out go for it integrity which he extended to me and others while we were going through the challenging process of transitioning out of the cult and breaking through the myth.

It was an amazing time for a so many of us who all seemed to wake-up at the same time the class of 2001 we fondly called ourselves,

Pat was an incredible chef, I also had the pleasure of visiting his Jourbet restaurant in SF where I experienced one of the finest meals I have ever eaten prepared by Pat, Andy and Chuck.

They closed the restaurant for the day and made the meal exclusively for myself and Gerry from Washington, some of you may remember him from the forum back then.

Amazing food South African, East Indian and Asian influenced original family recipes delicious homemade curries and chutneys

Later when Pat and the boys moved up to Oregon to a small coastal town I was shocked because it turned out that they settled in the same small town that I grew up in.

I made several trips down there and visited as often as possible before liver cancer and health subsequent issues and liver transplant slowed me down.

It has been a long while since I saw Pat though I thought of him often, news of his passing has hit hard I have a huge wave remorse because I intended to surprise him with a visit in a couple of weeks.

I am good to go now, no problems, Pat and I are the same age and we both were going through simultaneous age related health issues.  Ironically I was going to visit the hometown on the 28th and was all set to go over and see him.

I didn't always agree with his politics and he knew it but I have to say I am coming around to a better understanding of your views today Pat, I wish I could have told you that in person.

Thank you my friend for being there for me when I needed it most in my quest for freedom, your presence made a major difference in the quality of my life

My condolences to Andy and Chuck

R.I.P. Pat
Brian Smith
