I think I might become an American Juggalo.  I tell you these people are dedicated followers.  It makes our cult activity with Maharaji a walk in the park.

You'll actually have to sign in to YouTube to watch this because it's rather adventurous, shall I say.  I watched it on my Roku box and I didn't have to sign in, but they know who I am...

Do you remember the personal questionnaire we filled out as premies?  Did they snatch people away who had specific skills that they needed?  Funny, I never got called up.  Darn.

Dang it, the link didn't come through.  Time to hand stitch the html...

And it's only 23 minutes long.

American Juggalo

Yeah, it looks like you need a Google account or something to login to.  Anyway, these people are worth a visit at WikiPedia.  Except the interviews with the Juggalos is too precious to miss.

Yes I remember the questionairre.  Thank the Lorf(sic) Almighty that I had nothing to offer beyond donating money.  I did always get great seats at cult events.

It's funny towards the end of my premiedom in the 90's I was signed up as a regular donor.

But, I guess what little I gave wasn't enough to get me seats better than the balcony at Long Beach.  But, actually that's where I'd prefer to sit if I couldn't sit up close.  It was more of a spectacle from a distance.

I like the one guy who said something like "a guy told me that life was worthless, and I believed him until I came here. All these titties, all this weed and all this fast food. This is what it's all about."

Could you imagine a Maharaji cult with hedonistic premies like the Juggalos?  If only we really went wild back in 75 or 76 and if only Maharaji didn't drag us through the super devotional phase that ended with the ashrams closing.  We could...

No, premies just seemed to sensible for the most part.

We really got off easy with Maharaji's cult.  I mean, we could be dead like Jonestown.  But, maybe we were blessed by some people at the top who kept it under control.  And I think since Maharaji's gigantic lifestyle required a lot of money to keep running they needed a more stable population of devotees.

They must have some smart guys running things at the top.  And I suspect big donors and that stock he got from the whomever family helped a whole lot.

The juggalos seem to me to be a next generation deadheads. I wouldn't seriously call either a cult, but it does demonstrate the human propensity or instinct or whatever it is to want to belong to a tribe. It gives people a sense of worth, belonging, identity and purpose. I had an employee who would go to various goth/rock events and my wife's nephews go to some kind of medieval gatherings.

The term cult varies in context. In the context we are talking about I would look at it as a construct when a person or persons, the cult leaders, manipulate people's natural tendencies to want to belong to a tribe for their own personal gain. I don't know much about the Insane Clown Posse but it seems that they are just in the music business and like to party. Same as the Grateful Dead I guess, though I could never stand their music.

Does that still happen? That was kind of similar as well. The juggalo gathering is like a white trash version of that.

Hold on here, both of those are near and dear to my heart. By definition Rainbow is not a cult, simply because we lack leaders. It's fun, but you need to like camping and be prepared to do so. There were a few folks at dead shows who put the lead guitarist on a pedestal(Jerry Garcia), but they were a sub -group minority. I should know I went to 192 of their concerts. Sorry you never liked their music, perhaps you met some people that were TOO into, thus turning you off. I have fond memories of it all, but in honesty, because I went to so many, I did get bored. Thus, I embraced the sub -culture, selling LSD and pot, living a wealthy circus life. By the time I was 24 , I used to say"I don't follow the Grateful Dead, I follow the girls that follow the GD" I might still be in Texas or New Orleans had I got busted down there. In some of those states, Pot wasn't a crime, it was a sin. Once in a while I listen to a little, not much, I really did over-exposure in the past. I still do Rainbow because I like camping with hippies.
