I came across this blog entry dated October 18, 2009. I'm not clear about who the writer is, but I think Dr. Pearl is the writer talking in the third person (but I'm not sure).

This blog entry demonstrates well how "belief" versus "knowing" is the crux of Rawat's religion and how he snares people into, well, believing when they practice Knowledge that they are experiencing something knowable and therefore "real."  Rawat convinces people through repetitious listening (to him) that the K meditation practice is a route to the one true thing and is the practical solution. Hence, the circular argument ensues which premies invariably use, that they don't believe in anything, but they that they experience it, therefore, they "know."  I used that argument all the time when I was a premie.  It a good conversation stopper!

Anyway, from this blog:

I have been thinking about the concepts of “beliefs” and “knowledge”
A LOT, and especially in the last years. All of what I learned and read
about, was all about that.

E.g. these blog posts about Dr. Eric Pearl and his “the reconnection”. Do you believe that?

Dr. Pearl is very convinced of his stuff, he tells stories about it, but do I believe him? I don’t KNOW. He sounds credible, but I don’t KNOW. Knowledge is about being certain, it is about having experienced something to be true beyond doubt.
And that cannot be replaced by a story by somebody else however
“believable” or “credible” or “proven” or “credited by authority” a
story may be.

This morning I listened to Maharaji/Prem Rawat talk about this, “the
difference between belief and knowledge” and he found a beautiful
metaphor for it, that seems to tie it all together.

“A belief is a candle, an unlit candle. When the candle of belief is lit, it becomes KNOWLEDGE.” Now you KNOW. Now you are certain, there is no doubt anymore.

Do you know, what I like about this metaphor the most?

It is a dynamic, practical metaphor. The way from “belief” to
“knowledge” is NOT through argument, or scientific proof presented by
other people, that is all still about belief. And it is still occupying
the mind. When “knowingness” comes, the mind becomes quiet. because
there is certainty. To get from “believing/not believing” to
“knowingness” something has to MANIFEST.

Maharaji always talks in the context of experiencing the devine
peace inside, but this is true with anything, and especially also with
the “healing” approaches that I mostly talk about on this blog.

The question of “does this really work” or “is this really true”
cannot be answered by arguments, discussions, anything that can be said
or talked about.

It can only answered by one thing: Experience and then the feeling
of “knowingness”. The arguments or stories, or whatever is said about
something, can only be one thing: a bridge. Either you believe it or
you don’t believe it. But to KNOW it, you have to cross the bridge and
experience it beyond doubt. And that requires what?

Practical steps. Doing it. Whatever it requires to get to this point of knowingness.

Light the candle!

All the unlit candles, they are going to be thrown away…

You don’t even know, whether they can be lit or not.

I burn only candles with natural fragrances. Artificial scents bother me.

Hi Cynthia,

Dr Eric Pearl is a best selling author and he teaches a healing modality called "The Reconnection." I have known people who have taken his course and I had them do a healing on me. Ho Hum. More New Age junk.

hugs,

Karen
