I read this article and wonder if anyone knows this fellow. His parents were premies in Houston back in the day. I've never heard his music. I've heard of Devendra before because apparently Rawat gave him his name.

Here's the link to the article and the paragraph that relates to Rawat:

He's just been reading some Prem Rawat [I removed the link to Rawat's personal website] (an Indian spiritual leader and 1960s counterculture hero whom his
parents followed) and is pretty excited about it. "He said we are
equipped with this body, this 'ultimate experience machine'. It's the
ultimate experience machine. The chords exist, the words exist, the
colours exist, we're just making choices." Could he possibly, like us
drearier mortals, ever feel boring? "Totally," he cries, leaning
forward and looking madly intense. "Unquestionably. Deeply boring.
Really, I mean I am. I'm deeply conservative and I'm profoundly boring." He smiles and adds: "Dahling."

My wife and also a good friend both love his music. I can't stand it. Fortunately our CD player is broken at the moment.

There is definitely a thread in his whole presentation which just screams child of premies. I don't think he is a serious follower but the whole philosophy on which he was raised belongs to his canon of thought, "be like a child" and all that. I think it's probably similar to someone like me including my Jewish heritage in the way I think and act without actually participating in the religion itself.

But he is talented and somehow he got Natalie Portman to be his girlfriend for a while so he must have something going for himself on a personal level. He seems like a pretty wild guy but it is always difficult to know what is projected public persona and what is real.

The one thing I really like about him though is that he made a Sergeant Pepper-like album cover and put Prem in a Krishna suit on it. I'm guessing that wasn't officially sanctioned.

Oh dear we've both struck out on the same cultural reference ! still I hate the ******* Beatles as much as I hate ******* Devi Banhart, a force for banality both of 'em.

Yes I agree, and I hope you realise that I wasn't implying that I liked the Beatles, just that I liked that he put the krishna boy on the cover. I suppose he would have gotten disinherited for that except for the fact that he is probably supporting his parents.

Anyway yeah Beatles, so much fantastic music from that time period that gets short-shrifted because the Beatles and the Stones and a few other megastars get all the glory and attention. Maybe we should change this forum to an anti-Beatles slant.

Every song and every drum beat.

Even if if they were a creation of unseen forces.

Yes Hilltop, I've read that stuff too.

Hi Turey,

I never got back to you about the braiding session. It went really well. My daughter is a ninja warrior. Here's a picture. She's ready for her next braids already. This time she wants purple I think. Thanks for the support at the time.

Excellent. Watch for di dredlocks next

I'll check Devendra but nothing can touch the fab 4.

Hendrix was in another universe and I'll rock to Plant & Co all night, with Jefferson Starship for backup.

  Best, turey the Dinosaur.

He got discussed wayback on Forum8 http://www.prem-rawat-talk.org/f8archive/posts/26140.html

His Cripple Crow album cover feature was a Seargent Pepper take off and amongst the characters was Prem in full LOTU garb. Banhart's part of the nouveau hippy movement which means he's required to talk New Age bollocks but with a nod to "I'm being satirical really".  But I have to agree with him, he is both deeply conservative and deeply boring - but he knows what sells.

I got a copy of his CD from a premie mate. I played it once.
