Time for me to stand up and be counted | |||

Hello, It’s been long time since I posted as a regular on this forum. I know quite a number of the posters here both from the old days, meetings in cyberspace and of course various Latvians So though I have always been ‘incognito’ on the forum, many know my identity and more than a few have guessed. Warm greetings to you all and also to those of you who I haven't met and don't know me! I gave Mike an excerpt summarizing why I left Maharaji to be included in his new book, so I am coming out publicly now. You read it here first – I am not really a rabbit. I am Gail Benton, loyal devotee of Maharaji for over 25 years, ex-instructor and long-term partner of Mike Finch. I have watched Mike as he wrote his memoirs of his time with Maharaji and his journey to reclaim his authority. I have witnessed both the exacting measures he took to ensure the accuracy of his account and the integrity of spirit with which he approached the project. I admit I am probably biased –though I can assure you – I am the first one who will gladly provide him with constructive criticism (ha ha – sometimes not so constructive!). However, I totally respect the courage and tremendous commitment (in terms of his energy, time and money) – that he has shown in producing this book. Perhaps if the cult had not proved so determined to erase our history, there may not have been such a powerful reason to write it. But none of us would have dedicated ourselves to a “motivational speaker” in the way that premies did to the man we believed to be the Lord, no matter how persuaded or influenced we were by his precepts! And the record needs to be put straight. As far as possible, people should to be able to make informed choices in all things; ex-premie.org, and most of the affiliated websites help provide the opportunity to make that choice with regard to Maharaji. I hope Mike’s book will help more to make their choice informed – whatever the outcome may be. I don’t mind if anyone makes a free choice to follow Maharaji, what I mind is the deception employed to manipulate them into making it; well, not just the deception, but also the abuses perpetrated by means of that deception. So well done Mike! Thanks for doing what I would love to have done but know I would never get round to! Thanks for helping to set the record straight and documenting a history (albeit your memoirs rather than purely the story of DLM/Elan Vital) that has affected and continues to affect so many. A history that I have grown to feel less embarrassed by as I lived more in the “normal" everday world and realized quite how often people give their power away to more subtle, and indeed, more insidious guru’s whether in the political, corporate or new age arenas. In fact, I often think that it’s not always the obvious gurus that we should be most wary of. One final plug on the book – it’s a great read! A USA friend of mine (never a premie but who has known many) who was visiting us in Massachusetts found the proof copy of the book “so compelling I felt like reading it all night and had to make myself go to sleep”. As it was the only one we had we couldn’t let her take it. When she came back to visit a few days later it was one of the first things she asked for! Love to you all, Gail Benton |
